This AI receptionist comparison answers one question for roofers and other contractors: which phone option fits the way you work? We checked every price and feature below on each company's own website in September 2026, and we list AI Bot Store's gaps right next to everyone else's.
The short version: if you want callers booked onto your calendar or patched through to your cell, Taylor isn't built for that, and several options below are. How to choose an AI receptionist
Booking and transfers, or a complete message
Some AI receptionists book appointments and transfer calls live. Others take a message and get it to you fast. Booking helps when your calendar is current and you're happy letting software fill it. If you'd rather call the homeowner back and set the inspection yourself, you don't need it.
Taylor takes messages. She gets the caller's full name, a callback number read back to confirm, email, property address, what they need and how urgent it is. Then she emails you a summary with one-tap Call back and Text them back buttons. She doesn't book appointments, transfer calls live or text callers.
Per minute, per call or per caller
Most AI plans charge by the minute. Smith.ai charges by the call. Goodcall charges by unique caller, with unlimited minutes. Per-call pricing favors a few long calls. Per-minute pricing favors lots of short ones, like spam, wrong numbers and quick questions.
Ask how minutes are counted, too. Taylor counts by the second and doesn't charge partial minutes; Dialzara and Marlie also bill by the second. Rosie's and Ruby's terms say calls are rounded up to the next full minute.
What happens when you run over
Taylor keeps answering and adds $0.25 a minute to your next invoice. Marlie and Dialzara charge a set overage rate. Rosie's terms say it moves you up to a higher plan. Dialzara's FAQ says that if your minutes run out and auto-recharge is off, callers go to voicemail.
Setup fees and contracts
AI Bot Store has no setup fee and no contract; you cancel anytime from Setup, then Manage subscription. AgentZap lists a $499 one-time training and setup fee, waived on some longer terms, and asks for 30 days' notice to cancel a monthly plan. Smith.ai's AI plans are month-to-month with 30 days' notice.
Free trials and guarantees
Rosie and Dialzara offer 7-day free trials, Marlie a 14-day free trial, and Smith.ai a free AI plan with 25 calls a month. AI Bot Store doesn't offer a free trial. Capacity
Each Taylor receptionist answers up to 5 calls at the same time and up to 150 calls a day, and a call can run up to 10 minutes. If storm ads can make your phone ring hundreds of times in a day, weigh that. Marlie's roofing page says it handles unlimited concurrent calls, and AgentZap's says 100+ simultaneous calls.
